College of Arts and Humanities (ARHU)

The College of Arts and Humanities embraces a group of disciplines that study human experience, thought, expression and creativity. All value the development of critical thinking, fluent expression in writing and speech, sensitivity to ethical and aesthetic issues, and a complex understanding of history, culture, diversity, equity, inclusion, and social justice in our society. Departments and programs in Arts and Humanities prize vigorous intellectual debate in a diverse community. While our majors have strong individual identities, they are also involved in interdisciplinary studies.

The College of Arts & Humanities prides itself on interdisciplinary majors and minors, offering our students across all 30 of our majors (and all 39 of our minors) opportunities for coursework that incorporates schools of theory, thought, and application across disciplines.

The College offers the only Persian Flagship Program in the United States–a program that offers a state of the art language curriculum that aims to educate global professionals with superior command of Persian and a deep understanding of the life and cultures of Persian-speaking countries.

If your student has not been directly admitted to the LEP of their choice, they will be advised to complete the appropriate program’s gateway requirements, detailed here. Students are also encouraged to meet with a departmental advisor in their desired major, although this is not required ahead of taking gateway courses.

Encourage your student to contact the College Advising Office. The Advising Team will help your student to connect with campus resources to provide support.

The Career Center at ARHU is here to support your student through each stage of career exploration, from assessing interests and values, to learning about the world of work, to gaining experience in fields of interest, to applying for jobs and/or graduate school.

Dates and deadlines will vary depending on the semester–students will be sent information regarding deadlines for dropping and adding classes; withdrawal from courses with a W; applying for graduation; and other elements. It is also important to remind your student to check when they have been assigned a registration appointment and to clear any and all blocks prior to that time, knowing that many blocks can take upwards of 48 hours to clear.

Please contact the College Advising Office. The Advising Team will help you to connect with the best campus resource(s) to answer your questions.
