College of Agriculture and Natural Resources (AGNR)
Chartered as the Maryland Agricultural College in 1856, the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources is the cornerstone of the University of Maryland - College Park. Today, the College of AGNR embodies the UMD’s land-grant mission with a commitment to eliminate hunger, preserve our natural resources, improve quality of life, and empower the next generation through world-class education – the college truly embraces the philosophy of “think globally, act locally.”
Academic Programs
The college offers Bachelors degrees in Science and/or Landscape Architecture, with nine (9) different majors and thirty-three (33) concentrations to choose from! We also offer two-year certificates through our Institute of Applied Agriculture (IAA).
Academic Advising
Each of our seven (7) academic departments organizes advising based on their students’ needs and preferences. While group-advising works well for our more structured majors, one-on-one advising is best for others.
AGNR requires all students to meet with their advisor once per semester in order to enroll for the coming term. Beyond that, students are always welcome to reach out to their advisor(s) for guidance and/or get in touch with the college’s great team of Peer Mentors!
